With its four-set win over Spacer’s Toulouse VB, the Montpellier UC side rose to the top of the Ligue A table after three weeks of competition. Opposite Jean Patry and receiver/attacker Thiago Sens scored 17 points each to lead their side to victory. The win also builds anticipation for this Saturday’s tilt that matches Montpellier against Chaumont VB 52, the reigning Ligue A champions currently ranked third in this season’s table. Paris Volley claimed the second slot by beating Tours VB in four closely-fought sets. Paris needed 30 or more points to secure wins in two of the match’s four frames, with receiver/attacker Roland Gergye and opposite Wouter Ter Maat scoring 22 and 21 points to lead the winning side.
