While opening weekend brought several standout performances, our VolleyMob Player of the Week selection earned the top spot by bringing big numbers against tough competition.
Junior opposite Karl Apfelbach paced No. 8 UC Irvine to wins over No. 5 Lewis and No. 12 Loyola. Apfelbach averaged 4.71 kills, 2.43 digs and 0.57 blocks per set, while hitting at a .371 clip in the victories. The Shorewood, Wis., native downed 11 kills and added two blocks and two digs in the sweep of Lewis. He then pounded down 22 kills and rounded out a double-double with 15 digs, while hitting .444 in the 3-1 win against Loyola.
Rounding out our Top 5 for the week were four honorable mention selections.

Tanner Syftestad, UC San Diego – Sr., Opp.
Averaged 5.44 kills, 1.33 digs and 1.00 blocks per set, while hitting at a .361 clip; tallied 27 kills, while hitting .365 and adding five digs, five blocks and two aces vs. McKendree on Friday; downed 22 kills on a .356 hitting effort, seven digs, four blocks and two aces vs. King on Saturday; led team to their first 2-0 star since 1996
Jack Wyett, USC – Jr., OH
Averaged 4.28 kills, 1.43 digs and 0.50 blocks per set to go with a .325 hitting effort as the Trojans went 3-1; after sitting out two seasons, Wyett downed a match-high 20 kills, nine digs and three blocks vs. Princeton on Tuesday; added 14 kills on a .684 hitting effort (14-1-19) with five digs vs. Juniata; chipped in 15 kills, while hitting .321 and adding four digs vs. Stevens; wrapped up the weekend with 11 kills, while hitting .304 with three stuffs against No. 7 Hawaii.
Arvis Greene, Cal State Northridge – Sr., Opp.
Averaged 3.90 kills, 1.00 digs, 1.00 aces and 0.80 blocks per set, while hitting .321 in wins over Saint Francis (PA), NJIT and Princeton; posted 15 kills and hit .429 with six digs, two aces and two blocks vs. SFU; tallied 10 kills, a career-high four aces and three blocks, while hitting .333 vs. NJIT; notched 14 kills, four aces and three blocks vs. Princeton.
Joe Worsley, Hawaii – Jr., S
Averaged 10.50 assists, 2.13 digs and 0.63 blocks per set and helped the team to a .434 hitting effort at the Texaco Rainbow Warrior Classic; earned Most Outstanding Player honors as Hawaii won the tournament title with sweeps of Stevens, Juniata and USC; dished out 31 assists and added six digs and four blocks vs. Stevens; accounted for 17 assists and three digs vs. Juniata; notched 36 assists, eight digs, two kills and a block, while guiding Hawaii to a .479 hitting effort vs. No. 14 USC.
