Middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu is taking her game from Austin, Texas, to Florence, Italy after signing a pro contract with Il Bisonte Firenze of the Italian Serie A1 league.
A four-time AVCA All-America selection, Ogbogu notched 2.58 kills per set on a team-high .399 hitting effort, while also tallying 1.64 blocks per set. The Coppell, Texas, native put up 174 blocks, the most by a Texas player since 1999, while her stuffs per set average ranked second most in program history.
Ogbogu was a three-time first team All-American, earning the honors in 2014, 2015 and 2017. She also was a second-team honoree in 2013.
Minnesota alumna and Team USA member Hannah Tapp also is on the Il Bisonte roster, but recently suffered a season-ending knee injury.
Il Bisonte Firenze has just 4 wins in 14 games this season, which leaves them ranked 8th out of 12 teams in the top-tier of Italian volleyball. With 9th-place team Pomi Casalmaggiore making several big moves over the last month, including adding Maret Balkestein-Grothues and Annie Drews, even that position is precarious.
