The fifth leg of the fourth round in the Champions League has kicked off with PGE Skra Belchatow and Lokomotiv Novosibirsk battling it out in Pool C. The Polish team rolled through the Russian side to win 3-0, (25-19, 25-15, 25-19).
Prior to the match, Lokomotiv had posted an undefeated record at 4-0 while PGE Skra was even at 2-2, now Lokomotiv will go into the last phase of round 4 with a loss while PGE Skra now sits at 3-2 in the pool.
PGE Skra had a solid, well-distributed first set with Srecko Lisinac and Bartosz Bednorz leading the scoring with 5 points each. The difference in the first set was the serving, as PGE Skra posted 6 aces and 3 errors while Lokomotiv had 2 aces and 6 errors. The Polish side pulled out the first set win 25-19.
The second set started off with PGE Skra rolling out to a 7-2 lead over Lokomotiv which propelled into a dominant 15-5 lead midway through the match. They kept this rolling throughout the set to take the second 25-15 and the 2-0 match lead.
To start the second, it was a back and forth battle between the two squads with the score tied at 6 all, before PGE Skra jumped out to an 8-6 lead. They maintained the lead over the Russian side throughout the rest of the set, taking a 5 points lead late at 23-18. They held on to this lead, winning the set and match 25-19.
Lisinac led PGE Skra with 15 points while Mariusz Wlazly and Bednorz added 11 and 10 points, respectively. For the losing side, Iliyas Kurkaev and Nikolay Pavlov each contributed 9 points.
