Wednesday saw 46 qualification matches be played in Warsaw under pleasant weather. After all was said and done, eight men’s teams from eight different countries and nine women’s pairs from nine different countries sneaked through the qualification round, with Brazil, Norway and USA represented on both lists.
All three American duos moved on to the main draw:
Men’s Round 1
Trevor Crabb / John Mayer defeated Ociepski/Lech (Poland) 2-0 (21/15 21/18)
Casey Patterson/Stafford Slick lost to Li Zhuoxin/Ch. W. Zhou 2-0 (21/16 21/16)
Men’s Round 2
Trevor Crabb / John Mayer lost to Charly/Tigrito (16/21 21/17 16/14)
Casey Patterson/Stafford Slick defeated HA Likejiang/Wu Jiaxin 2-1 (18/21 22/20 15/17)
Women’s Round 1
Betsi Flint / Emily Day defeated Lece/Liepinlauska 2-0 (21/13 21/16)
Women’s Round 2
Betsi Flint / Emily Day defeated Strbova/Dubovcova 2-1 (23/21 16/21 15/12)
Flint/Day and Patterson/Slick will join Taylor Crabb and Jacob Gibbs in the main draw, while Trevor Crabb and John Mayer were eliminated. As for tournament favorites and top seeded Adrian Heidrich and Mirco Gerson of Switzerland, they only played on the second round, having received a bye in the first. They managed a straight-set win over Jyrki Nurminen and Santeri Siren, but not without a lot of work:
