UCLA men’s volleyball head coach John Speraw and his wife Michelle Speraw have welcomed their second baby girl to their Bruin family, Hailey Paige Speraw.
Hailey Paige Speraw was born on January 24, 2017. Their first daughter, Brooklyn Speraw was born in 2015.
This is Speraw’s 4th year head coaching the men’s Bruin team and has won 3 NCAA titles as head coach. Speraw is also the head coach of the USA Men’s National Volleyball Team since 2013 and won the U.S. men’s first FIVB World Cup back in 2015 and qualified for the 2016 Olympics.
Speraw is a former Bruin volleyball player himself as he competed to get his undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics in 1995 as well as lettering all 4 years as a middle blocker and won 2 NCAA championships (1993, 1995). Speraw was the volunteer assistant coach for the men’s program from 1996-1998 where he was offered a full-time position in the summer of 1998. In 2002 he was named the head coach at UC Irvine and got the Anteaters their first NCAA championship in 2007.
The Bruin’s are so far 7-1 in their 2017 record and 5-0 in conference play with a 5 game winning streak. The Bruins take on UC Santa Barbara again tonight at 7 p.m. (pacific standard time) after sweeping them on Wednesday January 25, 2016. UCLA also plays Princeton at home in the Pauley Pavilion Sunday January 29, 2017 at 8 p.m. (pacific standard time).
