A California native has returned home to continue her collegiate volleyball career. Berkley native Nastassja Bowman has joined the Cal State Fullerton volleyball team this spring, transferring after spending two years at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
The 5-10 setter was a part of two NCAA Tournament teams at SMU, including a second round appearance in 2016. After redshirting her true freshman campaign in 2015, Bowman played in six sets for SMU in 2016, posting 17 assists, nine digs and one kill.
“I’m thrilled to coach such a competitive player like Nastassja,” head coach Ashley Preston said on fullertontitans.com. “She is a lefty setter who enjoys being an offensive threat and loves to give her all every time she steps on the court.”
As a prepster, Bowman was a four-time all-league selection and earned San Joaquin Section MVP and Sacramento All-City Team honors each of her last two seasons at Christian Brothers High School. She also was a two-time honor roll member.
In the club ranks, Bowman played for Five Starz, leading the team to the Colorado Crossroads title. She advanced to the Junior Olympic National Championships twice and was named to the 2014 Junior National Championships All-Tournament team.
Bowman will join her sister Paloma in the Big West Conference ranks. Paloma will play at UC Davis in the fall.
Cal State Fullerton went 6-24 in 2016 and returns all but one player from the squad.
