Slovenian beach volleyball players will have a new place to train year round as the country opened its first indoor beach facility in Ljubljana, Sportnega parka Ludus.

It is the first facility of its type in the region and according to co-founder Martin Hrast, initial reaction from professional and recreational players alike are positive.

Slovenian national team member and professional beach player Jan Pokersnik, who competes with partner Nejc Zemljak, said the new courts will help with training for all players, including he and his partner as they train for the World and European series.

“I had the honor of trying out the Hall and I can say that it is really good,” Pokersnik said. “This will certainly allow even greater visibility and development.”

Pokersnik has teamed up with Zemljak, who played setter collegiately at Hawaii, since the 2013 FIVB season. The duo ranked fourth at the CEV Satellite Tournament in Pelhrimov in November. The pair is aiming to make the 2020 Olympics field.
