Thailand’s Supreme VC Grabs Asian Women’s Title

2017 ASIAN WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Eight women’s teams from across Asia competed for the continent’s club title last week, with Thailand’s Supreme VC bringing home the championship and earning a spot in the 2018 FIVB Women’s Club World Championships.

Supreme VC defeated Japan’s Hisamitsu Springs in four sets (25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-13) for the title on Wednesday. Fatou Diouck managed 23 points and Chatchu-on Moksri added 17 in the victory.  Diouck went on to earn MVP honors for the tournament.

Supreme VC competed against the United States Collegiate National Team May 22 as a warmup for the Club Championships. Hisamitsu Springs competed in the FIVB Club World Championships, May 9-14 in Kobe, Japan, as the host team, finishing eighth of the eight qualifying teams.

The bronze medal match featured China’s Tiankin Bohai Bank and Altay VC of Kazakhstan. The Chinese side won in four sets (20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20) as middle Zhang Xiaoting scored 20 points and captain Chen Liyi added 18. Altay’s Yunieska Robles managed a match-high 28 points, but it was not enough to lift her squad to victory.
