Russian’s Nikita Liamin and Viacheslav Krasilnikov take first place in The Hague over Spain’s Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira. The pair overcame a setback in their home country event, hosted in Moscow, losing to Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena in the finals. In their second straight finals, the Russian duo took home their second gold medal of the season – their first coming at the Kish Island event earlier this season.
The Hague was a three-star event in the FIVB’s new star ranking system of their events, meaning that the payout for the tournament comes from a $150,000 purse prize. The Russian pair will take home $10,000 to split from the purse.

The marathon match took 43 minutes to complete, with each set extending into extra points. The two-set win for the Russian pair marks their sixth time on the podium this season, with two golds.
“We are thrilled with this win against a very good Spanish team,” said Liamin to the FIVB. “Our season has been like a roller coaster with three “lower” finishes until reaching the finals in Moscow.”
Based off event so far this season, the Russian duo surpasses every other team with 2,260 points, with Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai coming in second with 1,920 points.
