FIVB World Tour – Daegu One-Star

 

Top seeded Miki Ishii and Megumi Murakami of Japan used a late rally in the third set to clinch their first FIVB World Tour title of the season, topping second seeded Varapatsorn Radarong/Tanarattha Udomchavee of Thailand in the tournament finale. Ishii/Murakami won the match 21-14, 15-21, 17-15, but trailed by five points early in Set 3. The team rallied to knot the score at 10 and finally grabbed the gold medal on its third match-point chance.

Ishii/Murakami advanced to the final after posting a 15-21, 21-14, 15-10 comeback win over Czech pairing Katerina Valkova and Diana Zolnercikova in the semifinals.

Radarong/Udomchavee made quick work of Germans Lisa Arnholdt and Leonie Welsch 21-8, 21-10 to earn a spot in the gold medal match.

Valkova/Zolnercikova did not miss out on their first chance for a podium finish, coming away with the bronze, by downing Arnholdt/Welsch 21-14, 24-22 in the third place match.

It was the first podium finish of the season for all three teams.

Miki Ishii /Megumi Murakami (Japan) def. Katerina Valkova/Diana Zolnercikova (Czech Republic) 15-21, 21-14, 15-10

Gold Medal match

Miki Ishii /Megumi Murakami (Japan) def. Varapatsorn Radarong/Tanarattha Udomchavee (Thailand) 21-14, 15-21, 17-15

Bronze Medal match

Katerina Valkova/Diana Zolnercikova (Czech Republic) def.  Lisa Arnholdt/Leonie Welsch (Germany)  21-14, 24-22
