Michigan volleyball has named its captains for the 2018 season: seniors-to-be Maddy Abbott, Jenna Lerg and Carly Skojdt.
Skojdt, a 6-1 outside hitter, was a third team All-America and first team All-Big Ten selection in 2017 while acting as a team co-captain. She led the team in kills 23 times and posted eight double-doubles, while notching 3.67 kills and 2.31 digs per set and hitting at a .240 clip. The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree has posted 889 kills and 657 digs in her Wolverine career.
Lerg, a 5-6 libero, led the team in digs in 28 of its 33 matches, posting 486 saves or 4.12 digs per set in 2017. The Farmington Hills, Michigan, native tallied double-digit dig efforts in 27 matches, including 20 or more six times. All told, the two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection has pulled up 1,372 digs as a Wolverine.
Abbott, a 5-10 setter, saw limited action in 2017, but dished out 62 assists and accounted for 10 digs and three aces in just 16 stanzas. Abbott’s biggest impact on the Wolverines came as a freshman in 2015 when she posted 434 assists (4.06 per set), 119 digs (1.11) and 10 aces, while playing in all 33 matches. The two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection was dubbed as the team’s 2017 Big Ten Conference Sportsmanship Award Winner.
The trio has been a part of 65 wins for the Wolverines, including three NCAA Tournament berths and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2016. In 2017, Michigan posted a 21-12 record and seventh place Big Ten finish.
The Wolverines are slated for a European Tour this June.
