32-year old setter Ozge Kirdar, twin sister of recent Champions League Final Four MVP Gozde Kirdar, has signed to play with the upstart THY volleyball club in Turkey. The club, supported by Turkish Airlines, was founded in 2016 and promoted to the 1st group a year later.
Unlike her sister, who is retiring, Ozge is actually returning to the sport after sitting out the 2017-2018 season. Before that, as a member of the Turkish National Team and played for another Turkish side Bursa BB, who won the 2017 CEV Challenge Cup. She was named the MVP of the tournament, which is the third-tier continental tournament in Europe.
Unlike her sister, who spent her entire professional career with the same club VakifBank, Ozge Kirdar has played played for at least 10 teams professionally. Most were in her home country of Turkey, but she also had stops with MKS Dabrowa Gomicza in Poland and Lokomotiv Baku in Azerbaijan.
In her most recent stint with VakifBank, she played in the 2011 Champions League and was named best setter as the club won their first of what has become 4 titles.
With the Turkish national team, she won bronze at the 2011 European Championship while serving as the team’s starting setter.
