It looks as if current Champions League runner-ups Alba Blaj has fallen in love with its Serbian players. After announcing Suzana Cebic, Maja Aleksic, Natasa Krsmanovic, and Ana Lazarevic as rosters pieces for the upcoming season, the club has recently reported in its official Facebook page the return of Nadja Ninkovic to Romania, the 5th Serbian in its roster.
The 25-year-old 6’4″ middle blocker Ninkovic is transferring out of Brazil’s Osasco, having also spent stints in Switzerland and Italy. She is returning to Alba Blaj after having an exceptional 2016/17 season with the club, leading the team to a national and cup title as one of the best players in the competition.
Although not constant fixture in Serbia’s national team, she did win an European Championship with the team in 2011, when she was only 18-years-old. She was last called up for the team for the 2017 Grand Prix. An underwhelming season in the much tougher Brazilian Superliga, trying to please a very demanding and often maniac Osasco fanbase, meant she wasn’t called up for this season’s VNL, and with the WCH right around the corner, she’ll probably be snubbed for it too. Regardless, at only 25 years of age, she’ll have plenty of time to bounce back. Being surrounded by her country’s fraternity can only help.
