Russian Players Ask Government For Charter Flights

Being one of the most successful volleyball teams of all time, one would think that Russian players would have more prestige with its governing body. The current VNL champions, tired of traveling coach to and from competitions, has met with the sport’s top brass in the country in order to request chartered flights for the team. Here is what the team’s head coach Sergei Shlyapnikov had to say:

“We were lucky that this year we played mostly in Europe. But to have a comfortable flight is very important. Next year, we will probably have to travel to Australia, Brazil, and the “Final Six” for the next three years will be held in the US.”

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Olga Golodet said that she would make efforts to solve this problem:

“Most of all, there were requests for comfortable transportation. The guys are very uncomfortable when flying coach. At the same Dmitry Musersky is 7’2″ tall. They are very difficult to fit in economy class. They would like to have special charter flights arranged for them to the competition venues. This will greatly reduce the time for adaptation and training after the flight. We will solve this issue by attracting sponsors.”

Russian players have not been the only ones facing airplane troubles. Just a few weeks ago, Brazilian players almost got their first-class privileges cut off:
