The Saint Mary’s women’s volleyball team will be adding much needed depth at the setter position with the transfer of Alexsa “Crash” Parker from New Mexico State.

Parker transfers to Saint Mary’s as a freshman, completing one indoor season at New Mexico State where the Aggies went 24-7. Playing in her first collegiate season, Parker was able to compete in every set of the season totaling 117 sets played. As New Mexico State’s backup setter, Crash racked up 548 assists, averaging 4.68 assists per set. Through 31 games of action, Parker totaled double digit assists in all but two games, with 11 20+ games and one 30 assist game. She has also shown versatility racking up 33 serving aces.

“We are fortunate to have Crash joining our team. She is a standout all-around volleyball player, and a very capable setter who is already making an impact,” says head coach Rob Browning. “We watched Crash a lot when she was in high school and are excited to have her on our team now. She had an outstanding freshman season at New Mexico State and will do very well on our beach team this spring.”

Parker will be a much-welcomed addition to the Gael’s squad with the impending departure of Hannah Liserra. She will make an immediate impact in beach volleyball and will be integral to indoor as starting setter Mary Hernandez will soon begin her senior year. Crash will allow Browning and the Gael’s to continue competing with a two-setter rotation and will be primed to take over the reigns when her time comes.

Parker played high school volleyball in St. George, Utah at Snow Canyon High School for coach Alaina Parker. After graduating, Parker ranks second all-time in Utah with 1,780 career kills and 1,443 career digs and sits third all-time in Utah with 273 service aces. She is a four-time Deseret News First Team All-State player and a three-time Region 9 MVP. In her senior year, Crash was named 2015 AVCA Under Armour Honorable Mention All-American. As a junior, Parker led her team to the 2014 3A state title and was named 2014 Utah Gatorade Player of the Year, 2014 Prep-Volleyball.com All-American, and 2014 Deseret News Ms. Volleyball.

“Her personality is a great fit because she knows how to work hard, compete, and have fun with her teammates. It took all of a couple of days for Crash to look like she’d already been here for months.”
