Paige Tapp, who recently finished her collegiate career at the University of Minnesota, has signed to play professionally with Juncos Valencianas in Puerto Rico. She is expected to join the team in the 2017 season.
In parallel with her final semester of college volleyball, Tapp finished the final semester of her undergraduate education in December. She completed her degree in marketing a semester early, finishing with a 3.83 GPA.
The 6’1″ middle blocker won the Senior CLASS award this year. The honor is given annually to the NCAA senior in each of 10 sports who demonstrated the best combination of performance on the court, performance in the classroom, and participation in their community. She became the first Minnesota athlete in any sport to win the award.
Tapp ranked 120th in the country on the season with 1.09 blocks-per-set individually. Statistically, that (as well as her .294 hitting percentage) were both the lowest output since her freshman season where she played just 21 sets for the Gophers. As a sophomore, she was named an AVCA Third-Team All-American.
Tapp’s twin sister, Hannah, an AVCA Second Team All-American, is anticipating graduating in the fall of 2017.
Together, with national player of the year Sarah Wilhite, they led the Gophers to the top ranking in the final AVCA poll of the season, and eventually to a final 4. Minnesota has won their last 36-straight home games.
