No women’s pairing have taken home the title at the Beach Volleyball World Championships in German history. The event begin in 1997 and has occurred every two years, with the closest call for Germany coming in 2013. That was the only year a German pairing has placed, with Karla Borger and Britta Büthe taking second-place. Borger is back in the tournament, but with a different partner in Margareta Kozuch.
In the 2017 tournament, Germany should have a great opportunity to place once again with two of the top four seeds in the event. Laboureur/Sude placed 15th in the 2015 version while the Ludwig/Walkenhorst pairing are the defending Olympic-champions but haven’t played as much due to Ludwig’s surgery in the winter.
