Beckman, McCullough, Jarome Tabbed as CAA’s Best of Week 10

RICHMOND, Va. – Charleston’s Allison Beckman was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season while UNCW’s Katie McCullough earned her first CAA Defensive Player of the Week honor. Towson’s Emily Jarome collected CAA Rookie of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Allison Beckman, Charleston
Senior | Setter | Apex, N.C./Apex
Beckman paced the Cougars to a 2-1 week with a trio of standout performances, averaging 12.46 assists and 2.54 digs per set while posting a pair of double-doubles. The senior setter opened the week with a double-double against CAA-leader James Madison, dishing out 48 assists and collecting 15 digs. She followed with another double-double on Saturday with 55 assists and 13 digs in the Cougars’ five-set win over Towson. Beckman saved perhaps her best performance for last, celebrating her senior day with a four-set career-high 59 assists to go along with two kills and two service aces in a 3-1 win over Delaware. The 2017 CAA Setter of the Year became only the second player in program history to record four consecutive 1,000-assist seasons on Sunday.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Katie McCullough, UNCW
Senior | Libero | Raleigh, N.C./Middle Creek
The Seahawks’ senior libero notched 36 digs in a five-set win over Delaware on Friday. It was the second most in her career and third most in UNCW program history. She became the 13th player to collect 1,000 career digs at UNCW. McCullough followed up that performance with a 19-dig day in the Seahawks’ big win over James Madison.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Emily Jarome, Towson
Freshman | Outside Hitter | Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy
Freshman Emily Jarome finished her split week with 20 kills, including 15 in the Tigers’ five-set epic at Charleston on Saturday afternoon. Against the Cougars, Jarome hit for .220, putting down 15 kills on 41 swings. The rookie scored four service aces, including three on Wednesday in her triumphant return to her home state. The newcomer added 22 digs on the week, including 17 against Charleston. She added a pair of block assists as well.
