After ending his collegiate career a year early, Ben Patch, one of Team USA’s most promising young stars, decided to sign with Italian club Vibo Valentio to start off his professional career. So far, his season has been a rocky road, with the Italian squad struggling to get wins and its players being publicly called out by the team’s owner. Patch’s play has been irregular, and he has been recently benched. It is even rumored that he will boon be traded to Dynamo Moscow, after Frenchman Kevin Le Roux had his contract rescinded with the team.
Benching and rumors aside, little did Patch know amidst his funky play that he would protagonize this week one of the most unbelievable plays of his young career. Here is what happened at the end of the second set of Valentio’s game against Sora:
A spectacular out of bounds save that resulted in an amazing block, and an incredible reaction from the Italian narrator, even though we have no ideia what he is saying.
Unfortunelly, it wasnt enough to propel Vibo to a win, as the team ended up losing the game 3-0 to Sora. Patch also didn’t get back in the game after his short second set stint that included the miracle play, and his block were his only points in the match. Vibo now has a 3-11 record for the season and sits in 12th place out of 14 teams in the standings.
