Volley Bergamo has announced in its official website the signing of Italian national teamer Camilla Mingardi to a contract. The player, who developed in Bergamo’s youth squads, is transferring out of Modena in a season that saw her play both as an opposite and an outside hitter. She left the team having hit 36% for the season to the tune of 4.07 points per set. The 20-year-old 6’2″ player just finished her first stint with Italy’s senior team in the VNL.

Here are her first words as a member of Bergamo:

“I think Bergamo has chosen me because it is building a team that is a perfect mix of young talents and more experienced players who together can do great things and achieve important results. In addition, Bergamo knows me well, so I think it is a magnificent return crowned by a great growth project! For my part, I chose Bergamo because the project reflects what I am looking for right now, and I do not deny that I would love to work with Matteo Bertini. We have been playing against each other for a couple of years and there has always been great mutual esteem among us, so I think this is the best way to do great things together! I always stress that if I have come to play at such a high level at just 20 years old, it is thanks to the youth sector of Bergamo, because they trained me and immediately prepared to enter the professional game with the technical baggage with which I can now to distinguish myself.”

Bergamo finished its last season with a 7-15 record, good enough for 10th place, and just narrowly beating out relegation.

“…I am a warrior…”
