Düren was able to open up their season with a 5-set win over defending champions of the Bundesliga on Thursday with only a pair of players scoring double-digit points. Sebastian Gevert scored 27 points at the opposite position for Düren in the win. He registered 26 kills and 1 ace. He hit .438 (54%) on the night. Romans Sauss scored 12 points on 10 kills and 2 blocks. The outside hitter posted a .206 (29%) in the win. 

Tim Broshog and Michael Andrei both scored 9 points in the middle for Düren. Broshog scored on 6 kills and 3 blocks. He put away 6 kills on 11 attempts without an attack error. Andrei also contributed 6 kills, but he also added 2 blocks and an ace. Tomas Kocian set Düren to a .323 (42%) attack efficiency. This included a .400 (47%) mark in the tiebreak. 

Berlin was led again by Kyle RussellThe American opposite scored 26 points from 24 kills and 2 blocks. Russell hit .390 (59%) in the loss. Adam White, outside hitter from Australiawas their next-highest scorer with 13 points. His points came on 11 kills, 1 block, and 1 ace. Jeff Jendryk scored 9 points in the middle with 7 kills, and 2 blocks. The other middle blocker, Nicolas Le Goff, put away 10 kills and added a block.

Netzhoppers SolWo K. Def. VCO Berlin 3-2 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, 15-11)

Casey Schouten helped the Netzhoppers come back from an 0-2 deficit to claim a victory behind 27 points. He scored on 24 kills, 2 aces, and 1 block. Theo Timmermann and Dirk Westphal scored 11 and 10 points respectively from the outside hitter position. Kenneth and Aran Chambers finished with 10 and 6 points each in the middle.

Linus Weber led VCO Berlin with 19 points in the loss. His 4 aces were a match-high. Anton Brehme and Louis Kuntsmann contributed 16 and 15 points each from the middle blocker position for VCO Berlin. Louis Brehme played the entire match at outside hitter but did not record a point. He completed 3 attack attempts with no kills and 2 errors. VCO Berlin has 2 matches over the upcoming weekend.
