Just like in the women’s competition, the semifinals field is set for the Male Brazilian Cup. Here is what went on in the quarterfinals match, according to Melhordovolei.com.br:
- 1st seed Cruzeiro had difficulty beating 6th seed Vôlei
- Renata/Campinas 3-2 ((25/15, 24/26, 21/25, 25/22 e 15/9). Here is what Isac Santos had to say of his team’s hard fought win:
“It was a balanced match. Our team stopped attacking the opponent in a few moments and they played very well, especially from the service line. During the match, we found ways to balance and close the sets. At the tie break, we got a good service sequence going, and that was important. We managed to keep our heads in place and play the game. That was why we won.”
2nd seed Sesc/RJ advanced into the competition by beating 5th seed Corinthians/Guarulhos 3-0 (26/24, 25/17 e 25/20). Here is what Coach Giovane Gávio had to say about making it to the semis:
“To be among the competition’s 4 best teams was a dream of ours. Now we have to work to play well at the semis. These match-ups could be a preview of Superliga’s play-offs, so our main objective is to play head to head with all of these great teams.”
3rd seed Taubaté beat 4th seed Minas Tênis Clube 3-1 (19/25, 25/22, 25/21 e 26/24). Here is what Taubaté’s (and also Brazil’s NT) libero Thales Hoss had to say of the win:
“We did not start the match well. We let the game roll and we were able to change the situation with greater aggressiveness from the second on. That was the main thing and it’s something Daniel Castellani always asks for. Consequently, we were then able to execute our fundamentals better: serving, passing, defending, and attacking, thus managing to get the win.”
These three teams will joining Sesi/SP, which will host the semifinals and finals of the competition, between Jan 25-27 to close out the competition. Sada/Cruzeiro and Sesc/RJ will add yet another page to their brewing rivalry, while Sesi/SP will try its luck against EMS Funvic/Taubaté.
