After leaving the teams match early against the University of Nebraska Omaha, Nebraska’s Briana Holman has been determined as “day to day” for the Huskers.

Holman went down in the middle of the third set against the Mavericks, clutching her left ankle, later leaving the match on crutches. It was later determined that Holman’s ankle was not broken, but the extent of the injury is unknown.

Holman did begin rejoining the team on the floor at practices this week but staying away from anything that would further irritate the injury. The status of her ankle injury puts her at a maybe to play for the Huskers this weekend. Nebraska will travel to the east coast to begin their Big Ten play with Penn State and Rutgers, followed by a three-match home stint.

With Holman’s status for the Penn State matchup in the air, the Huskers looked to freshman Chesney McClellan to replace Holman the remainder of the Mavericks match. That was the first action that McClellan has seen for the Huskers this season, not offering up any stats. The team has redshirt-freshman Lauren Stivrins as the opposite middle to Holman on a consistent basis while also having senior Allie Havers as a potential option in the middle. Havers was a four-year basketball player for the Huskers, who was also a volleyball player back in her high school days. She recently decided to make the switch to volleyball for her final year of eligibility.

The Huskers head coach, John Cook will take it easy with Holman’s injury, easing her back into play, “We’re not going to push it because I don’t want this thing to nag the whole season. Sometimes you come back too early and then you have an injury for the whole season.”
