Luczniczka Bydgoszcz has announced the signing of Patryk Akala on its official webpage. The 6’7″, 29-year old middle blocker, who had his spike measured at almost 12 feet, had been already training with the team for a few days, and was signed to a contract in order to fill up for injured players Wojciech Jurkiewicz e Mateusz Sacharewicz.

Akala is a well seasoned veteran, with many seasons under his belt. For the 2016-2017 season, he helped promote Aluron Virtu Warty Zawiercie into PlusLiga. He also played for Black Radom, Szczecin Sea, and AGH-100RK Cracow in the past.

Here is what Luczniczka Bydgoszcz’s coach, Jakub Bednaruk, had to say about the transfer:

Patryk has joined our team due to our many roster injuries. We needed someone strong and experienced to join our team, as we could not risk leaving only a youngster in our middle blocker roster position. Patryk is a model middle blocker, who will hit hard any ball thrown at him. He is exactly what we needed.

Luczniczka Bydgoszcz finished last season’s PlusLiga in 15th place and are currently in 11th place in the 2017-2018 season. Used to go on deep playoff runs only a few years ago, Bydgoszcz has made important signings this season in order to get back to PlusLiga’s elite clubs tier.
