Middle blocker Jennifer Keddy, a 2014 Cal Poly alumna who was in the midst of her fourth pro season in Europe, cut her season short due to a lump in her abdomen, which has since been diagnosed as ovarian cancer.

Keddy was playing for VCW Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden, Hessen, Germany, when she discovered the lump in December 2017. According to her GoFundMe page, the 26-year-old was told she had ovarian cancer and subsequently had surgery to remove the tumor and is starting chemotherapy.

The Missoula, Montana native was a two-time All-American at Cal Poly, earning third team acclaim as a sophomore (2010) and honorable mention nods as a junior (2011). Keddy, the 2011 Big West Player of the Year redshirted the following season before wrapping up her career with limited action in 2013.

Keddy kicked off her Mustang career with Big West All-Freshman team honors after posting 2.18 kills and 0.80 blocks per set. As a sophomore, she garnered All-West Region and first team All-Big West honors with 2.92 kills and 1.05 blocks per set. Her junior season brought 4.06 kills per set during Big West action and saw Keddy lead the conference with 4.85 points per set. As a redshirt senior, the Sentinel High School alum posted 1.74 kills and 0.77 blocks per set.

Professionally, Keddy began her career with Rovaniemi in Finland (2014-15). She then played for VK Kravolo Pole in Brno, Czech Republic (2015-16) and USC Munster in Munster, Germany (2016-17) before joining VCW Wiesbaden in August 2017.

This is NOT a sympathy post, but an awareness post. One morning I woke up a healthy, 26 year old professional volleyball player. The next morning I woke up as a 26 year old professional volleyball player with ovarian cancer. Never would I have imagined something like this could happen at such a young age but LADIES be aware; if you have abdominal pain it's not always from holding in your farts. 2018 is definitely going to start as a challenge but I can't wait to see what opportunities the year has in store for me as well. Thank you to everyone for their positive vibes and prayers🙏🏼💙#FCUKCANCER
