Head coach Travis Filar and the Chattanooga volleyball program announced the addition of former Mocs standout, Lauren Gainer, to the staff for the upcoming season.

Gainer, a spring 2016 graduate of UTC, will assume a volunteer role as the Director of Student-Athlete Development. She recently completed her Master’s Degree at the University of North Florida while continuing her playing career on their beach volleyball squad.

“When I found out Lauren [Gainer] was moving back to Chattanooga, I wanted to try and see if we could add her to our staff,” said Filar. “I couldn’t be more excited to have her on board as our Volunteer Director of Student-Athlete Development, and I know our program will benefit immensely from having her back.”

Gainer played for the Mocs from 2012-15 and was a vital piece during the ’15 season where Chattanooga earned the Southern Conference regular season championship. She was a two-time Academic All-Southern Conference selection while attaining spots on the Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll all four years.

“She was part of our first full recruiting class and was essentially a four-year captain from a leadership standpoint, helping build our program back to a championship level,” added Filar.

“It’s because of this, and the type of person Lauren is, that I know she will positively impact the personal development of our team captains as well as the rest of the team, and will be an awesome addition to our staff.”

Chattanooga opens up the regular season on Friday, August 25 against North Dakota at 2 p.m. as part of the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss. Position and match previews will be featured on GoMocs.com leading up to first serve.
