Class of 2020 MB Olivia Tjernagel Commits to Northern Iowa

Class of 2020 middle blocker/hitter Olivia Tjernagel has verbally committed to the University of Northern Iowa women’s volleyball program.

Standing at 6’1″, Tjernagel plays with Mayer Lutheran High School’s varsity team as well as for High Voltage Volleyball Club. Both are in the state of Minnesota.

As a junior this season in high school, Tjernagel is already averaging per set numbers of 3.5 kills on a .312 hitting percentage and 1.1 blocks according to her MaxPreps profile. As a sophomore at Mayer Lutheran, she totaled 219 kills (2.4 per set) on a .295 clip, 105 blocks (1.1 per set), 49 digs (0.5 per set) and 20 aces (0.2 per set) for a team that won their second straight Class A state volleyball title.

Club wise with High Voltage VBC, she most recently played with the 17-1 team. She owns a 95 inch standing reach, a 116 inch block touch and a 121 inch approach jump. Highlights from some of her play can be seen here via her Hudl page.

The commitment also becomes the second one for Northern Iowa in the class of 2020 that has been registered in the VolleyMob Recruiting Database. 2020 setter Tayler Alden is the other to join Tjernagel.

Northern Iowa is currently ranked #25 in the latest VolleyMob Top 25 Power Rankings as they sit at 2-4. Last season they went 27-9 en route to a second round NCAA Tournament appearance.
