HAMMOND, La. – Tuesday’s scheduled match between Southeastern and Jackson State has been postponed due to anticipated severe weather from Tropical Storm Gordon. According to The Weather Channel, Gordon is “forecast to get stronger and become a hurricane before it makes landfall late Tuesday or early Wednesday along the northern Gulf Coast.”

The match, which was to be played at Jackson State, will be rescheduled for later in the season although no makeup date has been announced.

The Lady Lions went just 3-27 in 2017, but one of those wins came in a 25-15, 25-17, 25-23 sweep of Jackson State at Mississippi State’s Maroon Classic.

Jackson State went 8-19 on the season, finishing seventh in Southwestern Athletic Conference play at 7-11.

As for what’s next in 2018, the Lady Lions (1-5) turn their attention Mobile, Alabama, where they will compete in the Jaguar Invitational against host South Alabama, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State, Friday and Saturday.

Jackson State (1-4) is slated to play in the University of New Orleans Invitational against Bethune Cookman, Morgan State and the host Privateers.

Tuesday’s match is not the first to be lost to weather in 2018. With Hurricane Lane aiming at Hawaii, Gonzaga and UCLA opted not to travel to Honolulu for the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Classic. That meant the end of a 38-year streak of the Bruins playing the Rainbow Wahine on the island. Instead, the Zags and Bruins met for a two-match slate in Westwood with UCLA winning both in four sets.

Meanwhile, Kansas State, which had already arrived in Hawaii, opted to ride out the storm, and eventually played two matches against the host team, winning both via sweep.
