Heidi Cartisser, the head coach of College of Southern Idaho’s women’s volleyball team, passed away on Tuesday at 44 years old. According to a Facebook post, she died in her sleep.
Cartisser, who also played for the Golden Eagles as an athlete, led the team to 3 NJCAA Junior College National Championships in 12 seasons. She was named Region 18 Coach of the Year on 4 occasions, and AVCA West Region Coach of the Year on 3 occasions.
She won that West Region award most recently for the 2017 season, where CSI finished 31-4 and advanced to the NJCAA National Championship game before losing 3-0 to Miami Dade Community College.
A GoFundMe account was set up for the family by Portland-area club coach Joe Houck, and in 24 hours has already raised almost $3,000.
Cartisser’s husband, Jim, is an assistant coach with the program. Cartisser is survived by the couple’s 5 children.
Funeral services for CSI Head Volleyball Coach Heidi Cartisser will be Wednesday, Dec. 27th, 2017 at the CSI Gymnasium.
There will be a public viewing Tuesday, Dec. 26th at the LDS 5th Ward Building located at 50 East 100 South, Jerome, ID 83338 as well as a viewing one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the CSI Gymnasium.
