Eczacibasi may just have pulled the transfer of the season in women`s volleyball by announcing in its official website the signing of South Korea`s superstar Kim Yeon-koung to a contract. One of the best active players in the sport, and certainly one of the best in her generation, Kim will return to Turkey after one year in China (the only two leagues able to afford her astronomic salary) . She previously played with Fenerbahce, with which she won numerous titles, including three Turkish Championships and one CEV Champions League Championship.
In Kim, Eczacibasi will add to its roster the MVP of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Partnered with one of the world`s best opposite hitters in Tijana Boskovic, and the experienced Team USA standouts Jordan Larson and Lauren Gibbemeyer, it is safe to say that the club took an important step in trying to improve on its 2nd place finish at this season`s Turkish League.
Reports also have it that Kim also received offers from Brazil, China, and Fenerbahce itself. However, few teams have the financial prosperity to afford Kim at her prime, now at 30 years old. The signing just goes to show that very few teams in the world can compete with Turkey`s millionaire volleyball.
