2017 AVP TOUR – HUNTINGTON BEACH OPEN

A second-consecutive two-set blowout with short duration powered Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen into the semifinals of the AVP opener in Huntington Beach.

After winning Friday’s second match in just 36 minutes, Flint and Larson went up a set on second-ranked Whitney Pavlik and April Ross with a 21-7 blowout. They’d survive a 21-19 second set to win in 42 minutes Saturday, advancing to the semifinals.

Pavlik and Ross fell to the loser’s bracket, but earned their own semifinal slot with a win over 5th-seeded DiCello and Stockman. That three-set match took over an hour.

Meanwhile, top-seeded Emily Day and Brittany Hochevar took care of business, beating #4 Carico and Fendrick to move to the semifinal. Carico and Fendrick won their loser’s bracket match over Fopma/Reeves and move on to the semis as well.

Sunday’s semifinal rounds are now set to see Flint and Larson take on Carico/Fendrick in the early match. Then the #1 and #2 seeds will meet, as Day and Hochevar battle Pavlik and Ross for the other spot in the final. That match takes place at 11:30, with the final at 4:00 PM.
