2017 CCSA Beach Volleyball Championships

Florida State and FIU advanced out of Pool A; while LSU and FAU advanced out of Pool B on Saturday at the 2017 CCSA Beach Volleyball Championships.

That left Florida State and FAU in one semi-final, while LSU and FIU played in the other.

Pool A

  • 1-seed Florida St. def. 5-seed FIU 4-1
  • 1-seed Florida St. def. 4-seed South Carolina 3-2
  • 5-seed FIU def. 9-seed UNCW 4-1
  • 8-seed Tulane def. 4-seed South Carolina 3-2
  • 8-seed Tulane def. 9-seed UNCW 5-0

Florida St. swept their Saturday games, which pushed them to 4-0 in pool play in the tournament.

The Seminoles’ 2-line of Vanessa Freire and Victoria Paranagua were the most dominant of the day, winning in straight-sets in both of the Seminoles’ pool-play matchups.

As for the Seminoles’ first opponents, South Carolina, they went 2-0 on day 1, but slipped on day to go 0-2. That left them out of the bracket, and likely out of the NCAA Championship tournament in spite of a record-setting 23-9 season.

Pool B

  • 2-seed LSU def. 7-seed College of Charleston 5-0
  • 2-seed LSU def. 3-seed Georgia State 3-2
  • 3-seed Georgia State def. 10-seed UAB 5-0
  • 6-seed FAU def. 7-seed College of Charleston 5-0
  • 6-seed FAU def. 10-seed UAB 3-2

FAU went 2-0 on Saturday, beating College of Charleston and UAB, while Georgia State lost to LSU to break the three-way 1-1 tie after day 1 of pool play.

That left FAU as the surprise advancement to the brackets alongside LSU, the latter of whom won their 23rd and 24th consecutive matches on Saturday. That made for the 3rd-longest winning streak in LSU Athletics history, across all sports.
