Former Colorado right side/setter Taylor Joachim is leaving the program but staying in state as a transfer to the University of Denver. A redshirt sophomore in 2017, Joachim will have two years left of play as a junior with Denver. Since she is changing conferences, it is likely she will be immediately eligible.
A 6’4″ native of Baroda, Michigan, Joachim appeared in 33 sets over her two years of play with Colorado (22 in 2017) and logged six kills while hitting .185, seven blocks and two digs. Prior to her time in Boulder, Joachim was an AVCA Under Armour Third-Team All-American at Lakeshore High School.
Denver went 23-6 overall last year with a 12-2 mark in the Summit League. Following their win in the postseason tournament, they made it to the NCAA Tournament.
The Pioneers utilized a 6-2 last season, meaning Joachim could play as both a setter and right side. Furthering the case is the fact that Denver graduates one of its two setters as part of the system and the only opposite they return didn’t appear in any sets last season.
For Colorado, they are coming off of a 24-10 season in which they made it to the Sweet 16. They should have two other returning opposites on their 2018 roster, along with a pair of setters coming back even after the loss of Jaden Newsome and now Joachim.
