Current Polish Champions Chemik Police has recently announced in its website the signing of American Chiaka Ogbogu. The 6’2″ 23-year-old middle blocker is a former University of Texas standout. She finished her senior season as the school’s all-time blocks leader, while also leading the team with a .399 hitting percentage (.405 for her career). After all was said and done, Ogbogu made three AVCA First-Team All-American squads by the end of her college eligibility (2014, 2015, 2017).
Ogbogu is transfering out of Italy’s Firenze after her first professional season. She took to her personal Instagram page to say goodbye to her former team:
“Thank you for everything @ilbisontevolley & for the opportunity to live and play my first professional season in one of the most amazing cities I’ve ever been to. Thank you to my teammates for all the love and for helping me not feel so foreign😅. I’m learning that all you have to do is commit and God will take care of the rest. #itaCHI 🇮🇹”
Although Italy’s Firenze was an amazing place to debut as a professional, Ogbogu will most certainly see more playing time with Poland’s Chemik, as it is in a weaker league. This will most certainly help to further speed up her development.
