Ohio State has been a force to be reckoned with over the past two seasons, winning the 2016 National Championship and having held the #1 ranking all but two weeks in the 2017 season.

The Buckeyes have now secured the 2017 MIVA title, recording a perfect 14-0 in league play and 25-2 overall. Ohio State has dropped only two matches this season, their first to UC-Irvine in a sweep who snapped the teams 42-match winning streak and more recently Penn State was able to take another win away in a five set battle.

The success comes from the players, the Buckeyes have four NCAA active leaders in their respective statistic.

Leaders

  • Kills – Miles Johnson, 1,284
  • Assists – Christy Blough, 4,079
  • Service Aces – Nicolas Szerszen, 165
  • Digs – Gabriel Domecus, 797

Johnson, Blough and Domecus are all seniors – with their statistics ending at the conclusion of the season.

Szerszen, as a junior, has one more season to add onto his stats. Currently, Szerszen ranks third on the list in kills with 1,183 – having all the abilities to lead the nation next season. Last season, Szerszen was selected as the National Player of the Year.

The Buckeyes have two regular season matches left on their schedule: Lindenwood and Quincy this coming weekend. Just one week later, the MIVA Tournament will begin – where they will look to defend their MIVA title. The wrap up the season, the Buckeyes will compete to reclaim their NCAA Title for the second year running.
