Earvin Ngapeth has signed a 3-year contract extension with defending Italian Champions Modena, which will keep him there until 2020.
Ngapeth has been with Modena since 2014, which has led him to 2 Italian Cup titles, 2 Italian SuperCup titles, and the 2016 Italian Championship. With France’s National Team, he won gold at the 2015 FIVB World League, the 2015 European Championship, and the 2016 World League bronze medal. In 2015, he was named the best outside hitter at the 2015 European Championships, in 2016 was named the MVP of the Italian League, and in 2016 named the “Most Spectacular Player” by the CEV.
This year, joined by his brother Swan, he and Modena finished the regular season 4th and lost to Civitanova 2 games to 1 in the Italian league semi-final.
Ngapeth said that he made the unusual move in pro volleyball of signing a long-term deal to focus on balancing his family and sporting commitments.
The move proves a counter to Trentino’s extension of Simone Giannelli until 2020 as well that he signed in late 2016. Trentino will face Civitanova in the Italian final.
Later this summer, Ngapeth will organize a 2-day beach volleyball invitational from July 12th-13th. He says the project is “very close to his heart” and will bring together top French and international players.
