Germany’s Bockermann/Fluggen Edge Doherty/Hyden for Olszytn Gold

2017 FIVB World Tour – Olsztyn

Germany’s Markus Bockermann and Lars Fluggen are FIVB World Tour champions for the first time in 2017, winning the Olsztyn Open in three sets on Sunday.

The Germans topped Americans Ryan Doherty and John Hyden 21-15, 18-21, 15-11 for the title. The gold medal and runner up spot are the first podium finishes for each team in 2017. Bockermann/Fluggen’s best previous placing was fifth at the Kish Island three star, while Doherty/Hyden previous best was fourth at the Fort Lauderdale five star.

Mexico’s Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros defeated Latvia’s Martins Plavins and Haralds Regza in the third place match, 21-17, 22-20. The win gave the Mexicans their first podium finish of 2017.
