The No. 3 University of Hawai’i beach volleyball team capped a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Gamecock Challenge with two more wins Sunday at Wheeler Beach on the campus of South Carolina. The Rainbow Wahine (18-3) overwhelmed both Florida Gulf Coast and UAB by identical 5-0 scores to move their win streak to a program record-tying 13 straight matches.
The only other time UH won 13 straight matches was during the 2015 season. Nearly half (6) of the team’s wins during its current streak have come via sweeps. The SandBows last loss came to then-No. 5 Florida State , 3-2, on March 10 at the East Meets West Challenge in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
A day after defeating UNC Wilmington and host and No. 8 South Carolina, the SandBows again met two teams for the first time ever on the beach courts. The Rainbow Wahine got little resistance from each, dropping just one set all day.
Emily Maglio and Ka’iwi Schucht continued their tear at the top of the order with a pair of straight set wins that extended their win streak to nine matches. The pair are now a team-best 18-3 on year with wins in 14 of their last 15 matches.
The SandBows will remain on the road for five more matches when they take on conference foes in the Big West Challenge, March 30-31, in Sacramento, Calif.
