Finally allowed to return to international competition after being suspended for the Commonwealth Games, among many other tournaments, India has announced their men’s and women’s teams for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games.
The men will depart for a camp in Patiala, while the women will convene in Bengaluru.
India’s men won their preliminary group and finished 5th at the last edition of the Asian Games in 2014, beating Qatar in the 5th-place classification match.
India returns 5 men’s players from the 2014 team, including then-captain Ranjit Singh, and the man who’s taken over that role Mohan Ukkrapandian. Also returning to the team is 28-year old Prabakaran, who in 2014 was the team’s top scorer as an outside hitter in 2014, but has now been shifted to libero.

The women had much less success in 2014 than the men did. They placed 8th out of 9 teams, winning only 1 of 7 matches they played: a 3-0 sweep of the Maldives, who scored only 113 points total in their 5 matches played.
