Bruce Giggy, a former volleyball coach at Columbus North High School and Columbus Christian High School in Columbus, Indiana, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to 3 counts of child molestation. He was accused with molesting 4 children under the age of 14 between 1999 and 2008, but pleaded 5 charges down to the 3 charges.

He was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months on each of the 3 charges, to be served consecutively. The minimum sentence for Class C felonies in the state of Indiana is 2 years per charge, and the maximum is 8 years. Giggy will also have to permanently register as a sex offender.

The 62-year old Giggy coached at Columbus North High School from 2005 through 2009, and then at Columbus Christian School until 2016. He was arrested in July of 2017.

Giggy’s son Jeremy posted to Facebook on Tuesday asking for comments from those who had  been positively impacted by his father Bruce, in hopes of sharing the stories with his father.

Giggy was formally banned by the U.S. Center for Safe Sport on January 4th, 2018. That makes him permanently ineligible for membership (including as a coach and official) within USA Volleyball or any other organization under the umbrella of the USOC. It would not necessarily apply to high school teams.
