After a 16-year professional stint as a volleyball player, Norewgian Iver Horrem has decided to retire in order to take up a position as the marketing director for the Norwegian Volleyball Federation (NVBF).
During his career Horrem participated in 183 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events, six FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, one Olympic Games, and 13 European Championships.
From 2001-2004 Horrem played with partner Bjorn Maaseide with their best results being a fifth place finish at the 2004 European World Championships and four 5. place finished in the World Tour.
Maaseide retired after the 2004 Olympic and Horrem joined Bard Inge Pettersen for two seasons where they achieved two fifth-place finishes in the world tour.
Maaseide came out of retirement to rejoin Horrem in 2007 and the two played together for the remainder of Horrem’s career.
Internationally, Horrem earned a total of $256,065 ranking him 83rd. In Europe he earned € 25,106.25 to rank 27th. Overall, his winnings added up to $294,402.03 for a 120th total ranking.
Now, after a long and successful career, it’s Horrem’s turn to leave the court, and he’s trading it all in for a position with the NVBF.
“I am happy for the chance to be a part of continuing development of Norwegian volleyball, a sport I am strongly committed to and which my heart beats harder for,” Horrem said. “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has supported me as a player. I hope I have given you more moments of joy than sorrow.”
Secretary general of the NVBF, Kristian Gjerstadberget said, “Iver has already shown what he is capable of and has several plans for NVBF’s marketing and communication network.”
Horrem’s official start date with the organization was not discussed.
