Japan kept the top spot in Pool D, outlasting Turkey in a nailbiter, while Italy made quick work of Argentina by showing off its offensive prowess.

Japan 3, Turkey 2
One point divided Japan and Turkey after a five-set battle in Pool D on Sunday which Japan won 107-106. The Japanese scored 16 more kills (57-41), while Turkey outdid its foes 20-7 on the block and 10-6 from the service line. The difference in the match was two Turkish errors (37-35).
Ai Kurogo scored 22 points to pace Japan, with 18 kills, three aces and a block. Miyuki Horie added 13 points, all on kills, while Tamaki Matsui managed seven points, including a team-best three blocks.
Five Turkish players managed double-digit scoring tallies. Yasemin Guveli led the way with 21 points, including 11 kills and a team-best nine blocks. Tugba Senoglu (11), Zehra Gunes (11), Saliha Sahin (10), Tutku Burcu Yuzgenc (10) followed. Gunes served up three aces and added four blocks, while Senoglu chipped in three stuffs.
Italy 3, Argentina 0
A dominant hitting effort lifted Italy to a sweep of Argentina in Pool D.
Italy racked up 47 kills, 16 more than its foes, and put up 10 blocks (to 6 for Argentina). The Argentines served up five aces, while allowing four. Italy did have to overcome 24 hitting miscues in the match.
Four Italian players contributed 10 or more points: Giulia Melli (14), Marina Lubian (13), Nkemdilim Ruth Terry Enweonwu (12) and Elena Pietrini (12). Melli downed 13 kills, while Lubian and Enweonwu added 11 apiece. Pietrini chipped in nine kills and a team-best two aces. Giulia Maria Mancini put up a team-leading six blocks.
Anahi Florencia Tosi and Daniela Veronica Nielson Ramella managed 12 and 11 points respectively to lead Argentina. Tosi tallied eight kills, three blocks and an ace, while Ramella and Agostina Denisse Soria added nine putaways each.
