The Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association has selected three winners for the league’s weekly awards. Loyola’s Jeff Jendryk and Ohio State’s Nicolas Szerszen have been named the Co-Offensive Players of the Week. Matt Walsh of Ball State has earned the Defensive Player of the Week. The period is for the Week of March 12-18.
Jendryk helped Loyola to a road sweep of Lewis. He hit .684 with 13 kills on 19 swings with no errors. His 4.33 kills per set in the match nearly doubled his season average of 2.26.
Szerszen hit .561 on the week in a five-set win at Penn State and a sweep at Saint Francis. He finished with a line of 36-4-57 while adding five aces and two assists on the week. He hit .600 with 22 kills against Penn State and returned the following day for 14 kills and no errors against the Red Flash (.519).
Walsh averaged 1.88 blocks per set in a pair of wins over Fort Wayne. In a five-set comeback victory on March 14, Walsh recorded nine blocks (one solo) with two digs. He added six blocks in a sweep of the Mastodons on March 17. Walsh helped the Cardinals limit the Mastodons to a .160 attack percentage in the sweep.
