As volleyball continues to grow in the number of participants playing at the high school and college levels, more and more colleges are adding volleyball programs. In recent months, Daemon College, Life University, and Cumberland University are just some of the schools that have added men’s volleyball as a school sponsored sport.

It is a trend that is continuing, but this time it is a women’s program being added at the Junior College level as John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois will be adding women’s volleyball in the fall of 2018. The school has been without women’s volleyball since 2009.

John Wood is a public community college with an enrollment of around 2,400 students. In addition to women’s volleyball, the school will be adding soccer, for both women and men. The school competes in the Mid-West Athletic Conference, where nine schools compete in the eight sponsored sports. With the addition of women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, and men’s soccer, John Wood will now have a team represented in seven of the sports. The school also sponsors baseball, softball, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball.

The school will be hiring a part-time coach to take over the program and expect to do so in the near future.
