K-State Takes Two Big 12 Honors, West Virginia Earns the Third

Kansas State’s Kylee Zumach and Gloria Mutiri were tabbed as Big 12 Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week respectively, while West Virginia’s Katie Demeo garnered Defensive Player of the Week nods for Week 4.

Zumach picked up her second Offensive Player of the Week nod after posting 4.86 kills per set on a .463 hitting effort in wins over UMKC and Green Bay. Zumach tallied 14 kills and 10 digs, while hitting .393 against the Kangaroos on Tuesday. The redshirt senior notched 20 kills on 39 errorless swings for a .513 hitting effort and added 10 digs and four blocks against Green Bay.

The offensive nod is the seventh Big 12 honor of her career following five rookie of the week nods in 2014 and Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors.

Mutiri turned in 3.00 kills and 3.000 digs per set, while hitting at a .327 clip. The opposite notched 12 kills and seven digs, while hitting .391 against UMKC. She tacked on nine kills, 14 digs and four blocks, while hitting .269 against Green Bay.

Demeo earned her first career weekly honor after averaging 1.92 blocks and 2.58 kills per set, while hitting .369 at the Mountaineer Classic. The sophomore middle blocker started the weekend with a 10-kill, 12-block double-double against Morehead State, while hitting at a .375 clip. She added seven kills and six stuffs against Penn and finished the weekend with a 14-kill, five block effort, while hitting at a .458 clip against Wake Forest.
