After serving a 1 year and 3 months doping sanction by WADA, Carlos Silva, or Kadu, for short, is back to the hardwood. He was announced by Vibo Valentia in its official website as the team’s newest signing. Kadu was originally suspended in March 2017 due to the use of the substance Clostebol, an anabolic steroid, while playing in his first stint in Valentia. His original 2 year suspension was half of the maximum allowed for first time offenders, and WADA pushed for the full four year ban. However, his lawyer alleged that the athlete’s intentional intake of Trofodermin, a healing cream which contains Clostebol, was due to negligence of his volleyball club, a statement that proved useful in avoiding the four year sanction.

The 23 year old Kadu is one of Brazil’s many young volleyball talents. He has been on coach Renan Del Zotto’s radar since he played for Brazilian powerhouse SADA/Cruzeiro, with Renan has actually traveled to Italy a few times to see him play. Here are Kadu’s first words upon his return:

“I’m really very happy to come back to Vibo. My expectation is the best possible, I hope I can do a great championship and help Tuna Callipo to the maximum. I’m sure that by working hard, we can achieve satisfying goals. I can not wait to go back to Vibo!.”
