Legendary Philippines volleyball coach, Florentino “Kid” Santos has passed away at the age of 67 due to cardiac arrest. Santos is most known for leading Far Eastern University to multiple titles over his career. At the time of Santos’ death, he was the director of the university’s volleyball program.
In his career with Far Eastern, Santos led the women’s program to 19 of their 29 UAAP championships and played mentor to a number of successful coaches. Some of the coaches he mentored over his years at the university is La Salle’s women’s coach Ramil de Jesus, La Salle’s men’s coach Nes Pamilar, Far Eastern’s George Pascua and Petron’s Shaq delos Santos.

For nearly five decades, Santos helped Far Eastern transform their volleyball program as a player, coach and head of the school’s volleyball program. At numerous times in his career, Santos handled the Philippine national team, with his last bout being in 2005 when he led the team to the bronze medal at the Manila Southeast Asian Games.
Santos is survived by three children and his wife.
