No. 16 Loyola Marymount was the lone Top 20 team in action Thursday, and the Lions posted two wins over Cal State Bakersfield (5-0) and Cal State Northridge (4-1).
LMU moved to 18-11 with the victories in Northridge.
McKayla Ferris and Savannah Slattery had a day full of excitement, earning three-set wins on Court 1 in both matches. The duo started the day by rallying from a first set loss against Cal State Bakersfield’s Sydney Haynes/Emily Hansen. The pair then held on for a 21-12, 18-21, 15-12 win over CSUN’s Katie Sato/Aeryn Owens.
Next up, LMU will head to Long Beach for a pair of Sunday matches against Utah and the host sixth-ranked 49ers.
Bakersfield also dropped a 3-2 decision to Northridge, despite boasting a 2-1 advantage after the first flight of matches.
Northridge’s Lauren McMurray and Autumn Russell won both of their matches, posting two straight set victories on Court 3 to bump their season win total to 12.
The Roadrunners are set for a Saturday triple header in Long Beach, facing Long Beach City College, Utah and LBSU. The Matadors wrap their home campaign with a Thursday April 19 match against Cal State Los Angeles.
