In a tough ACC Conference match, Louisville visited Boston College and came out the victors in a thrilling five sets (23-25, 25-18, 14-25, 26-24, 15-12). Kali Eaken led the Cardinals with 57 assists along with 2 aces and 10 digs. Janelle Jenkins led the team in kills with 18 while Tess Clark had 16 and Jasmine Bennett had 14.
Louisville only swung .205 too BC’s .252, while defensively Boston College had 18 blocks to Louisville‘s 9.
The deciding factor in the back and forth match was Louisville‘s ability to put away the ball as their 70 kills overshadowed BC’s 52.

Tess Clark had 16 kills and five blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-2 win over Boston College in ACC volleyball action Friday night in Chestnut Hill.
The Cardinals (6-9, 1-4) hit .205 and had 9.5 blocks. Janelle Jenkins pitched in 18 kills and Jasmine Bennett had 14 kills and two blocks in the 23-25, 25-18, 14-25, 26-24, 15-12 win. Boston College was led by Sol Calvete’s 17 kills and two blocks.
“That win felt fantastic, it was similar to so many of last year’s team wins, when we accomplished so much relying on a team effort. Everyone brought something to the floor at different times. Lyndsay Palmer got the big ace, Morgan Miller two big kills in one rotation for two big swings. Our middles made themselves available every single time . Molly Sauer paced us with consistent passing and serving along with aggressive defense,” said Anne Kordes, UofL head coach.
In the first set, UofL used a 6-0 run to take a 12-6 lead early but was plagued by four service errors and two net calls allowing BC to tie at 15. The Eagles took their first lead at 20-19, sparking a Cardinal timeout. Cards traded points but BC took a 23-21 lead on a kill by McKenna Goss and Kordes called timeout to regroup. Morgan Miller scored coming out of the break, but BC got to set point at 24-23 and then took the set 25-23 on a miss by Melanie McHenry.
In the second set, the Cards were down 13-11 before running off six straight points off the serving ofGabbie Wiley to take a 17-13 lead. BC ran off three consecutive points before the Cards outscored the Eagles 7-2 down the stretch for the 25-18 win and tie the set score at one going into the break . UofL hit .289 in the set and were outblocked 4-1.
In the third set, UofL had no answer for BC’s .391 hitting, The Eagles blocked the Cards six times and had two aces in their 24-14 win. UofL hit just .032 but Tess Clark‘s five kills on six swings was an offensive highlight.
The Cardinals let the Eagles out to a 6-1 lead in the fourth set but managed to scramble back to tie at 11. The teams traded points before BC took the lead at 18-17 and then spread it to 23-21. The Cards had no timeouts, then Jasmine Bennett ripped a point off the BC block to tie at 23. Gabbie Wiley‘s service ace gave the Eagles set point but the Cards scored on a BC error and then won the set on an ace by Molly Sauer. The Cards hit just .182 but did record 3.5 blocks.
In the final set, UofL blew out to an 11-5 lead and then held off a furiously charging Eagle squad who pulled to within two at 13-11. Melanie McHenry scored to get to set point and Tess Clark parked one for the win.
The Cardinals head to Syracuse for a 1 p.m. match.

BC HIGHLIGHTS
– Freshman Jill Strockis posted a double-double for the Eagles in kills and digs (11-13). It was her second double-double in four games, the last being against North Carolina.
– Junior Sol Calvete led the Eagles in kills in the match with 17, tying her season high (Harvard). In terms of killing percentage, freshman Cat Balido hit for a staggering .556.
– Two Eagles set career-highs in the match on Thursday. Senior Anna Skold tallied 11 total blocks (1 block solo, 10 block assists), while senior Julia Topor also set a new career high in total blocks with 9, all block assists. Strockis’ 13 digs was also a career-high.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1
The Cardinals were the first to lead substantially after using a 5-1 run to pull ahead 11-7. With a 5-1 run of their own, the Eagles tied the set at 15. The teams continued to exchange points until a service error by Louisville and a Calvete kill pulled the Eagles ahead 20-19, forcing a Louisville timeout. The Maroon and Gold tacked on a few more to force another Cardinals timeout at 23-21, and held on to win 25-23.
Set 2
Similar to the first set, neither team was able to get anything going until the Cardinals won four straight points to lead 15-13, forcing a BC timeout. Louisville continued its run to six straight points to lead 17-13. The Eagles got within one at 17-16, but the Cardinals won the next three points to go ahead 20-16, forcing another timeout by the Eagles. The Maroon and Gold couldn’t string together a run and fell 25-18.
Set 3
BC jumped ahead early winning the first six points, forcing a Louisville timeout. The Cardinals stopped the Eagles’ opening run at seven and got within four at 13-9, but BC stood its ground, forcing another Cardinals timeout at 16-10. The Eagles cruised from there, winning the set 25-14.
Set 4
The Eagles flew to an early lead again, going ahead 6-2, but the Cardinals put up four straight points to tie it at six all. The set remained even, but the Eagles edged ahead at 19-17 to force a Louisville timeout. The Cardinals fought back to within one at 22-21, causing the Eagles to call a timeout of their own. After taking the next point to lead 23-21, the Cardinals called their second timeout and rallied to tie it at 23 all. After taking three of the next four points, Louisville won the set 26-24.
Set 5
BC took a 2-1 lead but the Cardinals won five straight points to lead 6-2, forcing the Eagles to call timeout. Louisville continued its run to 6-0, and led 9-3 as the Eagles called their second timeout. The Maroon and Gold rallied to 13-9, forcing a Louisville timeout, but BC couldn’t pull ahead and fell 15-12.
